As two countries in Asia, China and Cambodia have kept a friendly relationship for more than a thousand years. In addition to economic cooperation, the two countries have set an example in conducting cultural exchanges, which not only strengthen mutual understanding but also draw closer bonds between the two peoples.
According to historical records, the friendly cultural exchanges between China and Cambodia date back to the Three Kingdoms period (220-280). Through ancient trading routes such as the Maritime Silk Road, the Chinese and Cambodian peoples exchanged specialties of the two countries as well as their understandings of Buddhism.
Since China and Cambodia established diplomatic relations in 1958, their cultural exchanges have become more and more frequent. In 2024, the two countries successfully marked the "Cambodia-China People-to-People Exchange Year," during which a rich variety of activities were held in the two countries.
For example, during a ceremony marking the closing of the "Cambodia-China People-to-People Exchange Year" in Zhengzhou, artists from the two countries staged spectacular performances of traditional dancing, martial arts as well as fashion shows of traditional clothing.
Amid the closer ties in each field, 2025 has been designated as "Cambodia-China Tourism Year" by the two countries. It is expected that this program will further contribute to the development of the tourism sector and people-to-people exchanges between the two countries.
