South Korea¡¯s traditional dance falls into two major types: court dance and folk dance. Court dance is usually performed to show the dignity and solemnity of royal families, featuring splendid costumes and high artistry. Its classic genres include sword dance, crane dance and cheoyong mask dance. Folk dance has considerably evolved along with the improvement of agricultural productivity and the prosperity of industry and commerce. Folk dance not only reflects ordinary people¡¯s lives and expresses their emotions but also highlights criticism against social realities. Popular forms of folk dance include long drum dance, fan dance, mask dance drama and peace blessing dance.
