<p align="justify"> 澳门的天主教音乐文化以及传统，是一个相对独立又相当独特、丰富的文化体系，在西学东传、西乐东渐的过程中，担当着重要的角色，对澳门的艺术文化生态和社会发展有着不可低估的影响。就今天来看，它不仅在华人地区具有独具一格的质量，也应该在东西方艺术文明交流史上留有一席地位。</p>
<p align="justify"> 20世纪的澳门天主教音乐在丰厚的早期天主教音乐历史的传统背景下，由于人文、地理、制度等各方面独特的条件，形成了华人地区少见的繁荣多彩的局面。随着20世纪的逝去，以历史和国际的视野，重新观察审视这些作品，探讨其创作特色和贡献，研究蕴含于其中的文化意义，有非常重要的意义。</p>
<p align="justify"> 这一时期澳门最重要的天主教作曲家首推三位先后来澳服务于圣若瑟修院的外来神父：马炳灵（意） 、司马荣（奥）和区师达（葡） 。其中，马炳灵忠实于意大利文艺复兴的对位风格，司马荣倾向于浪漫主义美感，而区师达的作品则相对现代并兼具葡萄牙风情与东方神韵。出于对第二故乡的尊重和热爱，他们的创作中还包含了不少中国风味的音乐作品。他们的作品是澳门现代天主教音乐文化史上的重要成就。</p>
<p align="justify"> 此外，一批本地天主教神父或教徒在侍奉天主的信念下，得益于澳门圣若瑟修院较为严格的音乐技术培训，亦为澳门天主教音乐创作注入活力，从而形成难得的天主教地区性音乐创作群体的基本面貌。</p>
