Flowers in Ink (Chinese Painting, Partial) XU Wei (Ming Dynasty)

  XU Wei was a famous writer, calligrapher and playwright in the Ming Dynasty. The scroll of Flowers in Ink, drawn by Chinese ink, portrays pines, bamboo, plantain, plum, chrysanthemum, orchids, peonies and others in the snow with other space intersperses with strange rocks. The painting background is rendered by light ink, highlighting the miscellaneous flowers on the snow. The scroll gives prominence to his characteristics of employing the cursive intonation with vigorous and colorful style. Large inscriptions in cursive by XU Wei were on the back of painting with extraordinary mettle, inscribed as "Tianchi Shanren".
