Mexican Film Heli Won Awards in Lima Film Festival

The 17th Lima Film Festival was concluded at National Grand Theater in Lima, capital of Peru on August 17th. The film Heli directed by Amat Escalante won the Award of Best Film. The film was a gangster film with the Mexican drug distribution network as the background. In this film, a 12-year-old girl fell in love with 17-year-old cadet of special agency. The cadet also wanted to take the girl to a faraway place. Unexpectedly, the pursuit of her own dream landed the girl’s family in destruction. Bloody violence, the gun fighting and revenge swept over this small Mexican town in the film. Escalante won the Award of Best Director at Cannes International Film Festival with this film in May this year. 

Sebastián Lelio, the famous director of Chili, won the Award of Best Director with his film Glory, which once entered the panoramic unit at the 63rd Berlin Film Festival. Its leading actress Paulina Garcia won the Award of Best Actress while Néstor Guzzini, Uruguayan actor won the Award of Best Actor for his acting in Tanta Agua, the joint film with Mexico.  

This Film Festival is one of the most influential film festivals in Latin America. During the 9 days of festival, 272 films of different types were on show. 18 feature films and 12 documentary films from Argentina, Brazil, Chili, Columbia, Mexico, Paraguay, Uruguay, Spain and Peru, the host country, took part in the contest for all the awards.
